Ceremonies for
the Earth: Peruvian Shamanic Traditions
Friday, Oct. 19th, 2012, 7:00 pm, Free
Introductory evening
Benefit for
CaminoVerde.org
Explore
Earth-honoring, heart-centered practices for personal
and planetary healing from the Pachakuti Mesa
tradition of Peruvian shamanism. Many of these
practices also have resonance with ancient and modern
Celtic traditions. You will learn ways to express and
activate loving care for self, community and Mother
Earth.
• Ceremony brings us back into our
deeper selves, into remembering our true
relationship to the Source of life, into honoring
the sacred circles of relationship all around us.
As a Pachakuti Mesa carrier, I feel a strong
obligation to support and perform ceremonial work on
behalf of Mother Earth. This is also a source of great
joy and spiritual reconnection for me. A foundation
principle of Andean shamanism is ayni or sacred
reciprocity. Ceremonies are a way we can give our
energy and love to the Earth as an offering for
healing, in sacred reciprocity for all She gives us.
Environmental activism is also an important way of
offering ayni.
FRIDAY EVENING
We will start with the need to shift a key cultural
principle or meme:
• From earth as
exploited resource to Earth as Sacred Source
• The Legend of
Eagle and Condor - a prophecy for our time that
supports this shift in consciousness
We will explore practical spiritual rituals and
practices that help bring us back into right
relationship with the Earth and each other:
• Working within
Sacred Space, calling on the Sacred Directions of
Peruvian Cosmovision
• Balancing
polarities, masculine and feminine, head and heart
• Embodying the
mesa - you are the altar and vessel for alchemical
change
• The Link-Up, a
community practice to increase healing energy for
Mother Earth

SATURDAY
In the workshop, you will create your own Pachakuti Mesa
(floor altar),
and learn some of its uses for personal, community, and
planetary
healing. Depending on the weather, we will also create an
apacheta
and/or a despacho, do a shamanic journey, or other
practices.
An apacheta is a small cairn, which creates energetic and
ceremonial
focus, and serves as an acupuncture point for the Earth.
It is often a
focal point for pilgrimage. A despacho is an offering that
we create
and give in gratitude to the Earth. Supply lists will be
available on
